The vampire Idony (2nd October, 1989 – 19th April, 2007) has been a resident of RavenBlack City since her turning from human to bloodsucker.
In life, she was the improvised heir of an amoral aristocratic family. She stubbornly rebelled against their nature, ending up running off to RBC accidentally, being turned almost immediately upon arrival. She has since undergone several changes of life-views and alliances, taken part in a few wars and been a member of a couple of large
bloodlines, all the while trying to shake the faux noblesse embedded in her character. She's come to fully accept the nature of her vampirism and tries to take advantage of it and its freedoms at all times. While still keeping an occasional proper air about her, Idony rarely turns down a chance to enjoy herself, her 'vocabulary', and live a little. She doesn't believe in the necessity of morality in vampires, be it loyalty or love of any sort, although as a true hypocrite she carries a great amount of affection and dedication to a select few in her circle.

Description

Portrait9.png

Displayed in a slender, feminine and petite frame, quite short at 5 foot 2, Idony is fragile and girlish looking. Her brown hair tends to be wavy, reaching her mid back and matching her light brown eyes which present a tentatively golden hue. These features, in combination with her full lips that make her pout look like that of a young child, give an impression of infantile innocence. The general rigidity in her demeanour and pose however can betray this inadvertent mask, and Idony is quite formal and serious for half of the time, the other half being cynical and occasionally starkly vulgar.
As an undead creature, her skin looks grimly white and dry, the fat having mostly disappeared from her body as time went on. For a short while after she's fed, Idony can pass for a healthy human to casual onlookers, but her usual visage is cadaverous, almost emaciated if she's lost a lot of blood. Her hands particularly display this, as her fingers were always long but now appear particularly arachnoid, slim and white. Her nails have all but gone black underneath, and where she used to love red nail-polish casually, she's recently taken to wearing it nearly all the time to hide their blackness underneath.

She typically preferred elegant clothes, as she was brought up to. Idony would've rather dressed like every other teenager, but it never seemed to fit her. The youth still sticks to what she knows she looks best in: simple, somewhat elegant yet never flashy clothes: jeans, black trousers, cotton blouses or sweaters, scarves or shawls, waistcoats and even ties on occasion. She also tends to wear high heeled shoes to make up for her stature.
On the occasions on which she is caught dressing out of her style, dark or warm colours - reds and yellows in particular - and plain clothes dominate. She's eventually taken to dressing less in style more and more however, interchangeable with suits with trousers of knee-length black skirts, but it still isn't uncommon to catch her in something like a dress out of the 1920's, if she's in a particularly good mood. Her appearance therefore alters between the gentleman and the lady.

Personality

Idony grew up to be decent and polite, although she subconsciously never cared much for it. She was always obedient and, although she didn’t like all that she had to attend, remained respectfully silent. As she became older it got hard for the stubborn, naively moral but proud child to not give her unwanted opinion, and the girl started being less obedient, her age reflecting in the frequency with which she worked up the courage or nerve to 'correct' her parents when they were overly inconsiderate or sadistic to their relatives and friends. Idony began speaking up and condemning her parents for their lack of decency, the obscene opulence they lived in and their ignorant nature. This boldness brought only punishment to the young girl, which she withstood well enough until her new stepfather started being 'physically violent' as she'd complain (read: one slap to the face); she was of course outraged and insulted. She did, and still does, take herself and her pride very seriously, ignorant that this is the root of all her similarities with the people who raised her. From all the years she had to fake before her parents and during society parties, in which she had to be a 'nice little lady' for her parents' sake, Idony gained the skills of simulation and dissimulation.

Since she's been a vampire, Idony's quiet nature has subsided to her desire to express her more extreme views, or just views she finds extreme and wishes to voice to annoy others. And particularly since joining the Midnights gang, she's been increasingly perverse, finding the gang to be a perfect example of the philosophy of de Sade (her favourite author) put into practice - complete freedom of expression. As perhaps a compulsion with narcissistic overtones, she's overly fond of introspection, and one of the most annoying things about it is that the more she looks at herself, the more she sees how she resembles her stepparents. Her general way of thinking, recent affinity for immorality and the mildly sadistic streak which echoes in her preferred lectures, her hedonism; all these remind her of the Divitiaes, and when she looks at herself, Idony becomes mildly self-loathing, which she reflects as loathing for everyone else. It doesn't occur to her that this newly uncovered personality might be a result of vampirism. She used to long for the strength of character to behave as she sees she should: freely, openly, even in an honest fashion, and not affected and elegant as she’d been brought up to. Recently, she's beginning to feel she has achieved this. This is why Idony has a great deal of admiration towards free, outspoken people, and this preference reflects itself in her taste of individuals and art. She very much enjoys punk music for instance, because it reminds her everyone can behave in any way they chose without having to worry about what others think. It reminds her one can be foul mouthed and violent and sarcastic and 'poorly groomed', and still show intelligence. As time went by and her new vampiric status brought something akin to more freedom via lack of consequence, the girl has allowed herself certain liberties in language and even thought, slowly feeling herself distancing from her life with the Divitiaes. This has reached the point where she can be very low context in speech (and manner), and her style of clothing has actually lost some of its style, without her minding it. Most of the time, she hovers between "zenith and nadir", as she put it, behaving and speaking elegantly or obscenely from one moment to the next; it depends on whom she's speaking with and where she is.

Merits:

  • Intelligence: while still a child, especially by vampire standards, Idony still knows more than the average vampire and can bring competent arguments in serious conversations.
  • Detachment: Idony prefers the cerebral before the emotional, and in RBC this can be more of a quality than in a human community. Although there are certain themes that remain crucially important to her, she can will herself into quantifying her dedication and responses to most people, regardless of relationship. She's also managed to detach herself from most human emotions, making her not a slave to redundant morals. This can easily turn into a flaw though, as most other vampires are still very much attached to their humane emotions.
  • Etiquette: as much as she tries to hide it, the vampire can't help but practice what she was taught, which is respect to those who deserve it - although deserving is subjective. Still, it serves to make for a good first impression to some, and she's likely to break the mould regarding the perception that "new kids these days can't respect those above them".
  • Courage: even if her ambitions currently exceed her prowess, Idony is a keen fighter and adores the exercise above a lot of other things. She's never one to turn down a battle, even if she knows for a fact that she'd get humiliatingly defeated; it's all a learning process for her. Her bravery doesn't go much further than the battlefield however, and in most social contexts she's mostly reclusive or discrete, when she isn't aggressive.
  • Appearance: she's not to be described as gorgeous or attractive, but her child-like features are still not bad to look at, even if they are perverted by her dead state. Indeed, many would be likely to underestimate her if they should take things at face value, and not expect an experienced killer with a depraved palate in the form of nymphet.

Flaws:

  • Arrogance: whether because of her upbringing or inherent demeanour, she often thinks too much of herself, and this leaves her open to all sorts of errors of judgement or renders her behaviour unacceptable by certain company. She treats herself with great importance, which makes her liable to easily be offended, and has a tendency to not take most other people seriously.
  • Blind devotion: although at first glance quite cool and modern-minded, the young vampire has a limitless potential of dedication, and she concentrates it on a few choice focal points: scholarly pursuits (which she holds above all other exercises and makes her worship individuals she feels are leaders in the field), her sire, and her group, whether clan or gang. This has arranged for her to, chronologically, take on a Battle Cloak that she didn't feel strongly about at all, making her a hypocrite and sheep, serve as a pawn in the ambitions, political games and drama fuelled plots of her second sire, which almost led to betraying an entire bloodline she liked and involving herself in a suicidal war, and keep herself from progressing when her third sire took repeated leaves of absence, unannounced and chaotic in occurrence. Indeed, she is so dedicated to her perceived family (which used to be her sire and siblings, then the extended bloodline and now limited again to the smaller lineage) that she would make irrational sacrifices in the service of others or were she asked to by her sire, who is the absolute, inviolable authority for her.
  • Violence: in behaviour, thought and speech, Idony can prove to be as vulgar as - if not, even more than - most men, which doesn't present her in any good light, depending on who's looking. Her vocabulary in particular is something she works on constantly in order to improve its depraved quality. This can lead to some people not taking her ideas seriously, when they are presented in a volatile fashion. Also, her more 'fiery' nature isn't always looked on as something that's wanted by either family or clan, and it's not seldom that she's told to tone herself down.
  • Infantile: Idony has experienced and done what a lot of adults would dread to, but that still hasn't erased a childish core in her being that keeps her from growing into a full-fledged member of society. She also has a problem in keeping her mouth shut about the things or people she likes, and she tends to brag without thinking.
  • Frail: given she was sired at the age of 17, Idony's body has remained at that state. She has gained the powers of Stamina since, but she's still quite weaker than most other vampires, which may put her at a disadvantage during the battles she so loves.

History

Early life

Portrait15.png

Idony was born on 2nd October 1989. Her parents, Anna Lyncpas and Jacob Pettypenn, were just children themselves, her mother being 16 and her father 18. They gave her off to an orphanage, where she spent the first weeks of her life. She of course recalls nothing from that period, and what she know about her real parents, she found out from reading her adoption papers and other documents, behind her adoptive parents’ back.

The girl was indeed eventually adopted, by the aristocratic couple of Baron James Divitiae and his wife Olympia. They needed a child to be heir to their hungrily hoarded fortune, as they despised the rest of their relatives to criminal degrees. Quite a few of said close relatives did die, apparently of natural causes, as Idony well remembers attending at least three funerals by the age of four. There was a sort of family rivalry, but evidence of foul play or the reason of the whole ‘feud’ were never revealed, and of course such things were kept from the young girl.

When she was eight years old, Idony’s stepmother told her the truth about herself after the girl confronted the woman with the papers: that she wasn’t their real child, and was only there to keep the family fortune away from their loathed cousins and brothers. She remembers the scene well, and also the calm her mother displayed, as if she was doing the most normal thing in the world. For the child, the attitude and information were a disturbing combination. Olympia told her daughter that it was a ‘great secret’, and that nobody was to find out.

In the household, the girl had few friends. She was allowed to play with the servants’ children, but they never fully got accustomed to her, as much as she longed for company. They were careful as to their bolder in displaying affection when the Barons were around, but the rest of the time, they brought no smile to Idony’s face.

She was given private tutors from the age of five, and study, although exhausting and boring at times, was still a relief from the rest of her day, which she would spend in solitude, or in the company of her pretentious parents. They would talk of things that were of no interest to a young child, and never gave her much attention. All of this was only brief exodus though, as every time she opened her eyes, the same sight awaited her: greed, pride, opulence and debauchery. The immorality of her parents either grew along with her, or she became too mature not to see it. How Idony managed to stay away from her family’s ‘habits’ remains a mystery. Either way, being radically different from her parents would prove to be a great misfortune, and an impossibility later on.

When she was sixteen, her stepfather died of an unknown illness. Although Idony suspected foul play, she never shared this with her mother – who must have had the same presumption – nor was this theory ever proven. The fact remained that hardly three months after her husband’s death, Lady Olympia Divitiae remarried to the younger and charismatic Duke Charles Poverson. He was a crueler man than his predecessor, with a wealth that equaled the foulness of his attitude. When Idony kept protesting about the even greater disgraceful state that had come to characterise the family - the overly opulent manner of the Duke’s way of being, her mother’s swift marriage, and the discussion that was brought whether Idony should still inherit the family fortune now that there were other potential heirs on the way, and the sharing of the fortune as well – she was for the first time in her life slapped by her parent, for which she never forgave him. Insulted by his stepdaughter’s behavior, Duke Poverson arranged for the girl to be sent to a northern school famed for its strict staff and classical academic style. Idony was given her packed bags, a ticket, a fancy dress of her choice, put on a train, and that was the last time she saw her stepparents. While the journey was half finished, the girl still contemplated her dire and bitter situation when the train had a malfunction and had to stop. Looking through the window of the compartment, Idony noticed a group of young boys jumping off the train from the middle of the wagons. Intrigued, interested, unattended by any guard or relative (not because of her parents' boldness, but simply because they didn't care) and seeing a way out, the girl did the same; leaving her bags in her compartment, she jumped off the train with nothing but her elegant choler-yellow dress. The girl wandered for two days through the countryside, avoiding people as she had an idea her stepparents were by then alerted of her disappearance. On the second day though, the hunger and thirst were too much to continue entertaining, having never been used to not eating at a regular time, and she entered the first city she came across. It was oddly called RavenBlack City.

Vampiric Life

Upon arriving in RavenBlack city, Idony meets the vampire †Aidan Hawke. By the dawn hours of the following day, she becomes a vampire too. The next months are spent learning about the ways of the city and of her new life, all the while slowly getting powers. On the 25th of May she is made to don a Battle Cloak, on account that her sire’s bloodline (Sang de Faucon) was inherently neutral when it came to vampiric warfare, and wanted to have nothing to do with it. The suggestion that all members of the family should become battle cloaked was pressed upon them when another of Aidan's childer, Candy, was sprayed with a Holy Water gun, which alarmed him greatly. She was his first-turned and Idony had the feeling she was his more or less unofficial favourite. On the 4th of August 2007, Aidan announces to his childer that he and his partnerbound were to leave the city and resettle. He offered his childer the chance to sever and seek other sires. The next day Idony was severed and on the 8th was resired under †RemipunX, another former childe of Aidan’s. She also took in his partner, †Dianacelestina’s childe, †Ollie. Remi then resired under †Majica. On the 20th of October (now aged 18) Idony attends †Thylantis’ Debutante and Masquerade Ball, thus having her coming out into society.

On the 29th of November she finally sheds the Battle Cloak and joins †Majica, †Ollie and Remi in what is to become the Farce War. It consisted of Majica Wilde defending herself against the RBC Mafia alliance. All alliance clans put together, it came up to about 70 vampires. The war is subsequently won by †Majica. Idony was zeroed within two days, but there were plentiful lulz. She still had 2 powers to go at that time, but on the 9th of January 2008 she finally becomes fully powered, cloak or neutrality lacking. By now though, she is in the D'dary bloodline, Remi having been resired by †Andre. Within the new bloodline, she participates in a few skirmishes and one or two small wars. The relation between her and her sire begins to suffer, and eventually she and †-Konamie- (sibling, 'siamese' and best friend) decide to sever. Then come some attempts at maneuvering, which included telling clan Yggdrasil that Remi and the Scions of the Phoenix were planning on attacking them in a few months (and only committing this high level of betrayal because of their sire’s unsympathetic view towards their own bloodline and the possible consequences). Unfortunately for them, Ygg probably knew that the SoP were planning on it anyway. Their goal (to join Ygg and reach severance that way) wasn’t achieved.

They did eventually sever themselves and then both resired under a very sympathetic †Andre. Remi severed from her partnerbound - also a D’dary - , her sire, and quitted the bloodline she sought to sabotage. For the next months, unlife was good. Blood was plentiful and the family was very fun to be in. Around early November 2008, †Sartori disappeared into death (DFC/D&B) and the entire bloodline seemingly fell with him. On the 1st of December Andre severed his sire for 3 years and joined †ophelia in the Lokason bloodline.

It was around this time that Idony and -Konamie- realised that with the D'darys practically gone and the Lokason family anything but warring, their only recently begun battle practice would home to a sharp stop. The only available solution would be to join a clan; nothing seems promising with the exception of the newly re-arrived Splinters of Dusk. Idony does heavy reading on their history, and strongly suggests to Konamie that they apply. Although they applied for Morningtide, they were 'relegated' into Eventide, which the girls found insulting at the time. Konamie starts becoming disillusioned with unlife and enters a torpor-like sleep from which she hasn't woken up for longer than a few days at the time since. However, Idony becomes accustomed with the clan and even if her reason for joining was a taste for the aggressive, she becomes genuinely fond of the philosophy. She is eventually allowed into Morningtide, and after months of applying the gekkonid philosophy she becomes a fervent and almost fanatic promoter of it.

After months of Morningtide inactivity, her at-the-time still budding detachment quivered once she joined the Midnights. In early January this gang appeared out of nowhere to bring a new approach to the old ideology of chaos. Led by †The David, its members are encouraged to wreak havoc and annoy. Idony keenly joined, even if their first major project was violating †Lucius’ final resting place. The Midnights took over Palazzo Lucius on the 24th of January 2009. Idony claimed his bedsheets, like a good little fangirl. After a few more pranks however, the gang seemed to have died out and only comes back to life at the whim of its members. Idony has started to distance herself - physically anyway - but she still talks to the old gang members and more or less seriously plots with them.

Lineage runs as follows: †Andre and the master vampire †ophelia.
Siblings: †-Konamie- and †Tyra.
Sire to no other vampires.

  • Formerly associated with The Midnights. Not a clan, but a gang of chaotic vampires bent on random destruction and amusement, forfeiting all logical, honorable and rational approaches to unlife.

Inspirations

  • One of the biggest parts of Idony’s attention and affection goes to the Marquis de Sade and his revolutionary writings. She adores him to fanaticism and tries to live by his ideology of complete freedom. Despite her perverse puns and intense readings however, Idony refuses to actually act on the Divine Marquis’ philosophies.
  • Another great inspiration to her is Freud and his ideas, but that’s mostly for fun as nothing can be proven anyway. And it’s so entertaining to tell people they actually lust after their parents/sires, that they’re gay because they loved their mothers too much, and other invasive perversities.
  • †Lucius was one of first intellectually bent vampires Idony came across and since then she has displayed a great deal of admiration towards him, to the perplexity of some vampires who actually knew him. However, she continues to blindly overlook the negative evidence, and simply reveres Lucius' Little Truths.
  • †Andre makes not only an exceptional sire, but was seen as a worthy model even before; perhaps it’s no coincidence that he has sometimes been compared to †Lucius himself. And it is his witticisms that drew Idony’s attention to him as well. She was the one who strongly suggested to Remi that she become his childe when she was torn between him and another candidate upon contemplating severance from †Majica. While his bloodthirst has mellowed in recent times, and especially after Sartori’s passing, Idony tries to emulate him and live up to his expectations. He is one of the few, if not perhaps the only authority figure in her eyes.

Achievements

Working for the Villainous Times has brought about Idony’s need to write. For the obscure little newspaper she has compiled a historical compendium which unites most of the public historic sources into a narration. It spans from the year of the city’s formation until 2007.
She has also put together a nearly complete list of city clans which is on the RBBite and has received praise.
