Human Life and Turning

The human child who would become the vampire Reyna was born in the rainy season of 1282 BCE in Sepermeru, Egypt to parents whose faces have long since eroded in her memory. She doesn’t remember what her name was, what their names were, only that her parents were very poor and resentful of the fact that due to the strenuous and long labour, her mother could bear no more children.

As a child she was clumsy and inept, essentially useless to her father who was a brick shaper in the tradition of his family before him. She was reduced to begging while her father worked to keep them fed. Despite her “duties” to beg and snatch, she was prone to wandering about the city which was then a thriving, if rather out of the way, city.

One day, she found her way into the large temple of Set (House of Set, Lord of Sepermeru) and listened to their prayers, running her hands in childlike wonder and curiosity over the carvings and hieroglyphs on the wall. One of the lector priests found her and asked her kindly what she was doing all by herself. She told him that she was told to come here to the priest's amazement, so he gave her a meal and told her the story of the creation of the world.

Her parents were all too grateful at the prospect of one less, useless, mouth to feed and gave her over to his care. As his student, she was taught to read and write, and various subjects taught in the schools at the capital. She showed a remarkable aptitude for learning, quickly mastering each and overcoming the mental challenges set before her.

When she reached puberty, she hit a growth spurt, easily surpassing the tallest of the priests in height. She became more withdrawn and introspective due to her obvious physical differences, while the lector priest who had become her mentor, appointed to high priest by her eleventh year, took it as another sign of her promise.

She began rigorous exercise and training both to gain some command over her rather lanky limbs and at the request of the priest. She learned how to use various weapons as well as hand-to-hand from the territories to the East, achieving a grace and poise that she had never possessed prior. Impressed with her progress, by her seventeenth year, the priest decided to tell her his plans.

She was to become the wife to Set, the Earthly embodiment of Astarte and to prove her merit as such, he decided to use old tomes found in the vaults of the temple to imbue her with divine power. He took her to a remote location in the desert, sufficiently far away from the city, and cut open her palms in several places while chanting from the book.

Depending on the perspective, the ceremony either went horribly wrong or miraculously right. An eerie lavender flame, cool to the feel, began to leak from the lacerations on her hands, veins and irises glowing a matching shade. A muscular figure emerged out of shadow and slaughtered the priest, coating the sand and her clothes in his blood. The figure introduced himself as Set and welcomed her into his fold of familiars, calling her by the name the priest had, Astarte. He pressed his palm to her forehead and disappeared. Weak with exhaustion and blood loss, she managed to get back to the temple where a lector priest dressed her hands. She slept for fourteen days.

When she awoke, there was a messenger from the capital telling her that she was now High Priestess of Set. Her life as Astarte had begun. She gradually gained command over her newfound powers, the ritual imbuing her with an even more attuned sense of agility and almost feline grace.

Several days after what would have been the marker for her twenty-fifth year, the temple had a visitor. He was broad-shouldered and pale with wild red hair and preternatural strength and command over shadows. The priests hailed him as the incarnate of Seth, as did she, though they all would learn.

As was her perceived duty as the wife of the deity, she and the strange man copulated. He bit her, draining her of her blood and forcing her to drink his. Thinking this just another bizarre ritual, she complied readily. She lost consciousness and did not wake for three days.

The temple was in ruins, the bodies of the priests scattered the rooms, blood smearing the intricate paintings and carvings. She fled to the temple of Nephthys, taking refuge in the catacombs below. Her skin burned and blistered from where it had been in contact with the sun, and the priests there explained what she had become.

From there, she took on the name Reyna Nephthys, using the Goddess of Night and Lamentation as her surname in a homage to the help they gave her. She wandered the known world, becoming a mercenary and an assassin for three thousand years. Ultimately she came to reside in RavenBlack City on December 8, 2009.

City History

Though Reyna entered the City in December of 2009, she merely began working on her powers. In early February, she signed up for a subscription to The RavenBlack Bite, where she came in contact with †Deylin, who would be her first sire. While getting to know him, she was interviewed by †Silhouette to become a member of the Morningtide of the Splinters of Dusk, as well as meeting †Deylin's then-sire †persephone and then-sibling †Ikunnaprinsess. She would come to have a greater bond with the latter than with him.

Reyna completed her initiation into the Splinters on March 15, 2010 and sired under †Deylin six days later, much to the protestations of †Andre, who had become her "Mentor-Man". Within a month, Reyna became discontent with her sire, especially after he sired †Lord Galamushi. She obtained advice from †Silhouette and †Ikunnaprinsess, both of whom offered to sire her. During that month, Reyna began dating †KIIA who she had met the day after †Deylin sired her, through his then-partner †Edan.

Reyna severed from †Deylin on May 31, 2010, just over a month after he had sired her. On June 3, she became fully-powered and eloped with †KIIA four days later to bind as partners. After serious deliberation, Reyna sired under †Silhouette, hoping to learn more than she had under †Deylin. She became closer with her sibling †Malkavian and his childe †Aziza Laredo. Reyna was zeroed for the first time in "real combat" on July 10 by the Hells Angels for a Splinter contract on their 2IC †Miranda Dawn. She would go on to be zeroed twenty-four times in total over the course of her time in the Splinters.

On a sojourn out of the City, Reyna met †Vaan and turned him, gaining her first childe. Ten days later, after speaking at length with †Tifereth, who she had become very close to, she requested to leave the Splinters of Dusk, and severed herself from †Silhouette, siring under †Tifereth the same night. In five days, Reyna had already had her first non-contract fight, assisting in the zeroing of †Daman along with several others.

November 12, she was attacked by †Lord Galamushi and †Samantha Dawn over a Splinter contract on †Rodargo despite her having left weeks earlier. When she informed her sire, the two were contacted for recrimination, which they and †Deylin ignored. Reyna and several of her new lineage zeroed †Lord Galamushi and †Samantha Dawn, the 14th and 16th of November respectively with Reyna receiving the killshot on the latter.. The two then declared that they would zero the D'dary, despite the general consensus in the family of a cease fire against blackblooders.

The same day that Reyna was hit, she and †KIIA severed mutually. Reyna had been getting closer with †Dea di Luna during the latter part of her binding to †KIIA, the distance between them making Reyna think their relationship was one-sided. †Dea di Luna and Reyna confessed their mutual attraction to each other, but did not pursue a relationship until after the severance was finalized. Near the end of November, the two went public.

Reyna burned †AkureiNakaru, powerless tavern trash, for being a general nuisance and an idiot. She severed †Vaan by his request, though it was far from mutual. On December 7, she officially joined †Capadocious' clan The Legacy as a member of the House of D'dary, stating that she would go wherever her sire went.

On December 11, the alliance of Yggdrasil and the Republic of RavenBlack declared war on The Legacy by attacking several of their members. Reyna along with several other members (most notably members of House of D'dary) retaliated, nearly zeroing †Christabel and forcing necro on the first night. There were hardly any attacks in return until a group of Ygg/RoR began attacking Capadocious. Several in the House of D'dary responded, attacking more members with little resistance. Reyna was finally zeroed after the D'dary had called off attacks for the night.

The first day of January, Reyna rejoins the war by hitting a handful of the Alliance members. Three days later, after the zeroing of her sire caused by a misunderstanding within the Alliance, Reyna and †Gothique bind as partners and attack †ophelia, †Vex and †melanctha. The first for the perceived deceit towards †Tifereth, the latter two for their unnecessary and hypocritical remarks in the casualty thread. They released a statement to the Bite stating that they would not take torpor again for the duration of the war. However, the statement was almost immediately retracted with a formal and public apology.

On January 5, †Sartori releases a public statement that the House of D'dary will be officially withdrawing from The Legacy, as well as the war. Reyna and †Gothique sever and Reyna's relationship with †Dea di Luna ends as a result of the hasty binding.

At the Bitey Awards, Reyna wins the category of Most Accomplished Fledgling.

On March 7, Reyna begins attacking †Prowler with †King Lestat and †Jaida with sporadic assistance from †Drella and †Annabelle. He is zeroed two days later.

Two weeks after, Reyna and †Tifereth are attacked by †Gothique and †Malone respectively. The D'dary retaliate against the unsolicited attacks. †Damacus then begins to hit, and when he is hit back, his partner-bound, †-Tatyn- joins the fight. †Gothique is zeroed the first night. Reyna and †-Tatyn- engage in a live fight, with Reyna being the agreed-upon winner. †Salsa, †Grin and †Airey hit D'dary members soon after.

On March 23, the Cuan family interferes in an attack on †Malone and †Damacus, soon after demanding that Reyna and her sire revert to "agreed upon" terms from the get out which had never been discussed with either woman. Eventually, through threats from the Cuan line (and unnamed others) zeroing the entire lineage, whether they had been involved in attacks or not, it was agreed that should †Tifereth and Reyna lose their fight, the former would take traditional torpor.
