Black Blood Explained

Biter Links

Biter Link

From a technical standpoint, Black Blood is simply a term used to describe the action of gaining blood through your biter link. For each person you draw in through your link and have them register to play with a vampire character, you gain ten blood points without even having to use any AP.

The game itself actually started out as nothing more than a biter link game which did little more than chart you blood and childer. Back then, having someone follow the link was all to be needed. However, in recent years (now that the game is much more than just about the biter links) Raven Black (the human person) modified the programm code giving each player the ability to switch off one's biter link in order to prevent people from siring themselves under your character without your permission.

Quizilla and Portable Necros

Over a thousand of childer
Lots of blood

While †Mooncalf (before it's player change) is often thought of as the first character to make good use of it's biter link, he was not[1]. The Father of Black Blood is actually the games creator Raven Black himself with his character †RavenBlack, who has gained hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of blood over the years through search engine links, and similar. However, the first player of the game to make real use of blood links was the one of †Xeneri, who already had a prominent website and used it to bring in many childer. Later the player of †Archangel used the website crayola to attach his link to thousands of online coloring pages in a viral manner much like †Xeneri had benefited from.

It wasn't until much later [when?] that the Player of †Mooncalf (see above) started using the website quizilla as a way of distributing his biter link at the end of every quiz result. It was only when he started to begin using quizilla as a means of gaining the large quantities of blood that it became taboo.

David, which was the Player of †Mooncalf back then states

"Perhaps this was because, unlike †Xeneri, †Archangel and †RavenBlack, †Mooncalf was not neutral in wars, and therefore had an unfair advantage in game, for an action which was in essence non-roleplay. At his highest peak, †Mooncalf gained well over 10,000 blood in a single day, which he often distributed to his clan and friends. He went from having blood in the low thousands to being the highest-blooded character in the entire game (which was then only 100,000 BPs, but still higher even than RavenBlack) in a little over a month or so."

In Character

From a role play standpoint, the concept of where this blood came from was not something that anyone attempted to explain for a long while. Despite the fact that †RavenBlack, †Archangel, †Xeneri, and others used their links to gain hundreds of thousands of blood pints, it was simply ignored from an in character perspective for a long time.

Until, of course, the usage of quizilla by David as a means to gain blood through links. At which point, people began calling it black blood, which was intended to convey the frowned-upon taboo of using biter links to gain large quantities of blood. Although nobody has sat down and extensively attempted to explain-away this massive gain in blood without action in-city, it has in the past been described as a forbidden wellspring of unnatural blood. More recently, it has been explained as the blood drained from Humans in the process of turning them against their will, though this does not fully explain how the blood is gained without moving.

The Honor/Dishonor of Black Blood

It is widely considered dishonorable to use black blood as a means of giving yourself an advantage in battle, mainly because doing so can make you invincible, if you gain quickly enough. However, in recent years, the taboo on black blood has died away a little, and it is now more acceptable than it once was, as long as the links are not spammed in areas not belonging to the person in question, or cheating used to artificially boost numbers (Which is why there is a distinction between Black Blood and Quizzing).

In resent years Quizilla and other quiz sights have stopped having links at the end of their quizes and so black blooding of the past is all but gone. Today their are but a few vampires who gain blood slowly by other means from their biter links. †Kevan, †Xeneri, †Lord Galamushi, and †Archangel all gain blood from their biter links at a much slower pace then quizzing of the past. One or two new pires a day are gainned. The reason behind it is their notariety with in the city and on the net, where their biter links can be found by looking for them or just googling their names.

To some they're still called black blooders, but their approch to new childe differs. The game was founded as a virual game where as new people were introduced to the game by being given a biter link for the benafit of the reward of 10 extra pints per new person signed up. If not for people who spread their biter links around, the future of the city might have been very different. Thanks to "Black Blooders" RavenBlack city has as many people as it does.

Black Blood Sales

Clan Mooncalf and Early Sales

Clan Mooncalf (then run by †Mooncalf when he was owned by his creator and former owner before he was sold OOC) was the first to sell black blood, and it became their primary means of income.[when?] They would gain well over 100,000 coins per week on these sales, as their links brought in massive amounts of blood for interested third parties. These actions, of course, brought further outrage to the fore.

The Midnights Modern Sales

The Midnights (a gang ran by †The David, which was played by †Mooncalfs former owner) had later (in 2009) started using alternate methods of gaining black blood. They sold this service around the city, but mostly advertised in Cafe Damari, where they offered rates matching those of a standard necromancer (25 coins per BP).

Out Of Character

Though the term of Black Blood has become an acceptable term in today's game. The use of cloning which Raven Black has determined is cheating, is not permitted. As long as new players are coming into the game via the biter link, there is no penalty to the character.

However, as spoken in the Game FAQ's, [Cloning is] siring other vampires without actually inviting additional players, by simply signing up several vampires oneself, or getting one friend to sign up several vampires. If one does this for the blood bonus, this is cloning, and will be penalised.

The penalties can be loss of the blood points that has been gained, loss of the characters that were cloned, or even deletion of the character that has been found to be creating the clones. Each of the penalties are determined by Raven Black, and are based upon the severity of the infraction.
