Secret shop

Long article

Shop/Special Shop/Lair definitions

One principal question: Should [[Category:Shops]] and [[Category:Lairs]] be mutually exclusive? The answer will determine how Shop can be defined:

  • If exclusive, Shop can be defined as a building with a greyish blue sign. However, that will make [[Category:Special Shops]] span across both Shops and Lairs.
  • Alternatively, Shop can be a building that sell items (or buy them). Then [[Category:Special Shops]] becomes a subset of Shops. Some of them will also be Lairs, creating a Shop/Lair overlap.
  • A third option is to lift out [[Category:Special Shops]] from Shops just to avoid the problem, but that seems anti-intuitive.

I think either way works, but picking one clear definition is good for consistency as more lairs offer items for sale. --deCarnacT·C 13:41, 6 April 2012 (CEST)

Cleaning up the Shops pages

I wanted to start cleaning up the shops pages. I've been taking screen shots of the shops as I find them for AVID, and would like to add those to each page. I'd also like to add what is sold in each shop in some sort of chart, with the prices by level of charisma. Screenshots sounds good! If it's mainly to show the grid look you can also use the {{FakeSquare}} template if you like (example to the right).
Listing all items and prices at each shop page would provide rich info. Since the list would be identical for shops of the same category, we could make price list templates for each category (for scroll shops, potion shops, magic shops respectively). Perhaps those in turn could be based on a common price list template that controls the formatting for all those lists. If something later changes, the template can be edited thereby updating all pages in one go. It could theoretically be a "smart" template that contains price data and does the discount calculations for the items you write as input. What do you think? --deCarnacT·C 11:21, 27 June 2012 (CEST)

Shop movement intervals

I just found something that indicates that not all moving shops move at 12 hour intervals. I have in the last two months seen shops move as expected in both Europe nighttime (ca 22:43 UTC) and daytime (around 10:43 UTC). Today however, I saw Spinners Pawn remain in place from morning to 22:43 UTC. That means the day-move didn't happen, suggesting a 24 hour interval.

I found some old notes from 2005 mentioning that some shops moved at 12 h intervals and some at 24 h intervals. This may of course have changed since then. What have you seen, heard and read about the actual intervals and how they may differ between shop types? I have a hypothesis that I want to test about pawn shops moving only every 24 h, can anyone confirm or refute it? --deCarnacT·C 01:24, 1 August 2012 (CEST)
