Clans are groups of organized vampires, somewhat analogous to gangs, tribes and fraternities/sororities. They are often roleplaying creations, and/or serve as non-roleplaying social groups for the players of the vampires in them. Clan affiliation of an individual vampire has no in-game support, but many lairs are associated with particular clans.

Different clans serve different purposes on a varying degree of seriousness and usually have an alignment within the axis good-neutral-evil. Some clans are open to all, some are exclusive to, for example, only a certain bloodline (i.e. childer of the same sire) or pires deemed worthy by tests ("quests", "trials by fire" and such) determined by the clan.

A clan is a group of vampires working together for a similar goal. While the actions of bloodlines/families may be similar or even the same in some cases, the members of clans are not necessarily related by blood; they are simply collaborating. Although the line between these entities have blurred (especially with the introduction of the Scroll of Succour) they are still different.
