History

(as written by †PinkGoth2 and †PoisonIvy)

2003

28th June
  • The Splinters of Dusk are a vague sketch of a thought in the delusional mind of pinkgothic, inspired by her noticing the rather extreme bleakness of the region just south-west of Archer's Tavern. It inspires the first thoughts about city Districts, and the aforementioned region is condemned a shady and highly dangerous one. The rumour of there having been an OmniBank in the area that shut down due to violences is set into the world, and the ratio human:vampire is mentioned high. First thoughts are along the lines of creating a human anti-vampire clan, though, but as said before, these are all vague, passing thoughts.
24th August
  • Kayura and Neike begin to chat about the concept of a truly 'assassin' clan, a train of thought possibly kept alive by Neike's irritation at †Afrogumby around that time, without that she was seriously considering harm. At this point in time, the only mercenary clan other than the one being sketched into existence is the Assassin's Guild, who restrict themselves in whom they attack, limiting themselves to evil vampires. The idea is grafted and set. As the clan is supposed to exist prior to PinkGoth2 joining it, they create the vampire "†Mictian" (Aztec god of death) to later give to anyone who wants to play him - giving PinkGoth2's invisible haunter a name and face, without a player to move him (At this point, Mictian is no more than a clone, essentially). It's called "Underground", to clearly state not only the physical existence of a territory, but also that the ideals starkly differ from the rest of the city.
27th August
  • Avarice joins The Abyss on request of PinkGoth2. Up to this point, Avarice has had no contact with the vampire game - he's given the name "Mictian" and is to play the character with the same name in the "Eclipsed" Sidewinder, as well as take over the vampire in the city. (They joked about how his personality matched Mictian's in the thread perfectly, and it went from there). As the ideas for the vampire clan at this point are nothing more than "absolute neutrality" & "mercenary clan", Avarice is not quite aware of what exactly he got himself into (and neither are PinkGoth2 or Kayura at this point!).
27th September
  • Sudden craze befalls PinkGoth2 and she types up the Underground codex in its current form as the post to introduce the Underground to The Abyss:

This is a project that was started in thought by me and Lady Kayura and is now in the hands of our friend Mictian. As tends to be the case with any clan I come up with, this clan is a little strange when it comes to its ideals. They're an assassin clan, but unlike the Assassins Guild, they're so neutral it hurts. Literally.

The codex of the clan is as follows:
1. Thou shallt not attack another vampire unless thou was paid for it.
2. Thou shallt not bite and rob your fellow clan mates.
3. Thou shallt be attacked by thine fellow clan mates if they were paid for it.
4. YOU ARE SHUNNED FROM THE WORLD, vampire, you have no rights other than to beg for mercy if overwhelmed by an enemy, and thou may not strike back, for thou art deserving of every bloodpint lost.
5. Thou shallt bleed, and thou shallt learn to love it, else be broken.
6. Thou shallt not believe the clan to be involved in anything. We have no friends and enemies, and neither shallt you upon joining. Our enemy is fate and she will always shatter us - but she shall never win.
7. Thou shallt not tell others of the members of this clan. It is all protection we can offer.
8. Thou shallt not sire vampires, for they give blood. If thou are found to have your childer count increase during thine time with Splinters of Dusk, thou will bleed.

2003.09.27
Due to a name clash, "the Underground" is renamed to "Splinters of Dusk" - a name PinkGoth2 came up with by browsing thesaurus.com for synonyms of clan, then of brotherhood, then of descendants... where she found 'Splinters', which she instantly reverted back to the literal meaning of broken glass - imagery she quite likes in context of the Splinters, given their codex.

2003.10.24
The first incarnation of the forum is created: http://splinters.suddenlaunch.com - At this point, the only two members in the clan are Mictian and PinkGoth2, but †thDARKisRISING and †Lady Kayura are given full access to the forum - thDARK for financially supporting the young clan. The only reason a forum is created is due to having wanted one since the clan creation, but Az as the admin of The Abyss not wishing to add a new board for a clan of merely two members.

2003.10.28
The Immolators Guild affiliation is created as an idea and worked out from this day onward.

2003.11.18
The gecko as a symbol is invented and from then on, undisputed by anyone, it commences infiltrating the websites, logos, banners, and so on - even though it was never voted upon or officially endorsed by Mictian.

2004

21st January
  • †Mictian declares his wish to step down from his position of clan leader and mentor to being a simple Splinter - due to OOC issues involving, mainly, a lack of time.

2004.01.26
After several private and forum messages on the matter of a clan leadership change, Mictian fells his decision and declares Zauil the new clan leader, and Sinister Glow second-in-command.

2004.01.29
February 21 is declared a Splinters of Dusk 'holiday', as it is the date the Immolators Guilds were created.

2004.01.30
The Steele Industries Factory is first mentioned. At this point, it does not have the full name (it is just known as The Factory @ Umbrella 44), and no description just yet.

2004.05.28
Black Unicorn is promoted to Morningtide leaderess for his efforts as Eventide second in command.

2004.07.09
Mictian leaves the clan completely, still displeased with his clan activity, now to a breaking point. He remains ambassador in The Sun Clan, however, for the time being until the clan can come up with a replacement.

2006

2006.01.20
Due to the massive counter-attack attached to Project #39 called "Adopt A Twig", along with the mass leaving of splinters, Black Unicorn makes the decision to offically disband the Morningtide.

Due to more and more people leaving Morningtide we have decided to take a drastic, new course of action and detach
ourselves from all current projects and conflicts by disbanding the whole "fighting arm" of the Clan. The following announcement is effective immediately and free for release to all concerned parties:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Announcement to all concerned:
As of today the Splinters of Dusk: Morningtide will be disbanded. This means the following:
1) All on-going contracts against third party targets will be voided
2) All clients of voided contracts will be contacted personally about this, compensation for unfinished jobs will be given
3) All former members of the Morningtide who will continue to actively operate in the City will do so on their own and will be responsible for their own actions and any actions of other clans they may be members of
4) No former member may issue statements, transfer money or accept contracts in the name of the Clan as the Clan has effectively ceased to be

In plain english: We are no longer a Clan and will not operate as such. Members will go their separate ways and choose their own paths. No targets will be attacked in our name. Any clients will be compensated for unfinished jobs but that's about it, any other would-be debtors will just have to suck up their losses. Sorry about that, but there is no company to pay you and there is no money to pay from.
- Black Unicorn, Former Leader of Splinters of Dusk: Morningtide

2006.06.29
†WhiteLighter, †Sartori, Dark Entity, and Kayura come together to start rebuilding their old clan. Offical rewriting and renovation, along with a new board (http://www.splintersofdusk.proboards50.com) is started.

2006.07.16
During a meeting about clan laws, the positions of the clan thus far are settled. Apparition will lead the Eventide with †Kyo & DarkEntity as ON. On the other end WhiteLighter will lead the Morningtide with Sartori & Kayura as respective ON.

2006.10.09
The SoD is publicly announced by way of a Bar Rumor, followed by an interview of WhiteLighter through the Nitty Gritty.

2006.11.25
Apparition, formerly the Eventide Leader, was demoted to Shadow Shard aftering being place under Black Flake Status for two days. The issue surrounding his demotion involved the acceptance and execution of an outside contract upon a fellow splinter without the knowledge of any one ON or the Morningtide Leader.

2007

2007
WhiteLighter disappears from the city and the Splinters of Dusk board without naming a successor to take over the clan. The Splinters fall into shadows once more without their leadership. A few members carry on the Splinter name though the clan has fallen into dismay.

2008

2008.10
†PoisonIvy and Caboose begin talks about reviving the Splinters once more. Poison makes contact with pinkgothic and she in turn makes contact with WhiteLighter.

2008.11.17
Pinkgothic wipes the board and hands over command of the board to PoisonIvy who takes over the Morningtide leader position.

2008.11.20
Leadership for the new beginning is put into place. weaver is the new Eventide Leader with Dusk and Caboose being ON.

2008.11.26
Splinters of Dusk are announced as open for business once more in BCIN, RavenBlack Bite, and RBWU. Mixed feelings come from the city as expected.

2009

2009.11.05
The Splinters take contracts out on the NightWatch and several others throughout the city, sprouting a second "Adopt-a-twig" program, this time led by Lady Tejas. The introduction of newspapers and forums gave more members of the city the opportunity to express their political and philosophical opinions; self expression from the gekkonids has been criticised by some, most notably by Gehyrans.
The gekkonids take the concerted attacks but otherwise continue with their business. There is a great deal of debate within city papers as to the merit of attacking the clan of assassins or a police force attacking a clan at all, but also the ethical and moral merit of the clan itself. Gehyra express themselves pleased with the attacks, but ultimately uncaring. By the end of the month, several groups and individuals take the opportunity to attack the NightWatch just as they had ceased their attacks on the gekkonids. To some parties this was seen as unbiased behaviour from the clan, although the Splinters themselves had nothing to do with the attacks against the Adopt-a-twig members. Regardless of the Splinter's claims that they did not ask for help, the assistance clearly helped the Splinters regardless. This marked the first time that the Splinters discussed their situation in the papers, and the first time the group of assassins had outside help. Clan Capadocious warns that they will destroy the Splinters forever if any Capadocians are attacked.

2009.11.15
The disposition of the Splinters worsens as their leader †PoisonIvy goes Dead-and-Buried. Her death comes at the hands of Zyan who leaves her to burn in the sun.
Poison's Note: Not all names are In City Names.)

2011

2011.01.01
The Splinters of Dusk close their doors.
The following was posted on the RavenBlack Bite by †Mictian, the former Eventide leader:

For seven years, the duality of the Tides has accompanied RavenBlack City, presenting a face to the young vampire city that was sometimes fractured, but never quite lost in the flow of time. For nearly a century, the philosophic roots have grown into what they are now, matured from Zyan's initial Immolator-offshoot into that perplexing medely of pacifism and a warrior's dedication that has marked our purpose in this city so prominently in recent years.

Under †Silhouette's leadership the clan has seen a golden age of not only activity but also integrity and valour. Yet, much as my decision to split the initially single-threaded clan into Tides in 2003, we feel that it is time for a drastic change once again:

Come the dawning of the New Year, the clan, the Splinters of Dusk, shall not be rising with it.

The Gekkonid spirit will not, however, be dying tonight. We have grown into an exceptional family with exceptional beliefs. Time itself has admirably proven that noble intention and a strong philosophic core will not and cannot die.

Yet, it is a philosophy. It's been the philosophy of the clan for many years - now, we are returning it to the people. The clan as an entity has mentored the city and reached its possible saturation. The seeds of the idea now rest in the minds of those who leave us tonight, to take root where they wish and spread like a wildfire.

As the saying goes:

If you love something, set it free.
